After meeting your local guide, the first stop on your tour will be Congress Square, where you’ll get acquainted with the development of arts in Ljubljana.
Next, we’ll pay a visit to one of the few workshops by the Ljubljanica River, where a shoemaker is still making and fixing shoes on the same location where medieval shoemaking workshops once existed.
The family has been working in the shoe trade for over three generations and we’ll hear firsthand stories about their work and passion for the craft.
We’ll then head over what’s known as Shoemaker’s Bridge or Cobbler’s Bridge and learn about a unique collaboration between a wood product designer and the shoemaker. They’re on opposite sides of the river but work closely with one another to deliver the best that the two worlds have to offer.
Next, we’ll make our way to the heart of the city’s Town Square to learn about the tradition of lace bobbing in Slovenia, where you’ll also have the chance to try your hand at this intricate craft.
From there we’ll introduce you to the tradition of salt making, which dates back into the 13th century and is still done in the same way today.
We’ll also take some time to get to know the tradition of beekeeping and learn how Slovenians have contributed to the naming of May 20th as World Bee Day.
And since Slovenia has developed many glassware factories, we’ll share some secrets with you about the most famous of them all.
Your tour will conclude in another artisan workshop where they make a unique type of porcelain that is used by modern-day royalty, and you’ll hear the story firsthand from the owners.
Before you go, your guide will be happy to provide recommendations and ideas for what to do next in Ljubljana and how best to spend the rest of your time in this beautiful city.
